Everybody’s Talking

┈┈┈┈┈☟┈┈┈┈┈

Unusual shopper: Folks were only thinking about what they might buy as they shopped in a retail park in the town of Pittsburgh Mills, Pennsylvania. They weren’t thinking about the fact that a 125-pound, disoriented female black bear had joined them inside one of the department stores. Shopper Matt Marcinik noticed the animal dart by him, but it took a few seconds for him to realize it was a bear. It growled at people before becoming trapped between double doors. The mall was evacuated. Conservation officials arrived, tranquilized the bear and removed it from the premises. No one knows how the bear ended up at the mall.

Free sand: Those who live near Leba, Poland, are permitted to take some of the sand from the Baltic Sea home with them. Leba tourism official Pawel Dabrowski reports that there is too much sand drifting from dunes in the Slowinski National Park. The sand is starting to clog the canal leading into the town’s picturesque fishing and yacht port. Workers have to continuously dredge the canal to clear it of sand which has become a costly undertaking. Anyone can take as much of the pure, light sand as they need at no cost and it is being used for many purposes, including construction projects and filling up children’s sandboxes.

Lego queen: To mark Queen Elizabeth’s 60th anniversary on the throne, Lego, the company that makes the tiny coloured building blocks, recreated the Queen of England using Lego. The 3.9 inch high model came complete with a real diamond-encrusted crown. The Queen was placed on a Lego version of the balcony of Buckingham Palace, along with the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry – all created with Lego. It was on display at Legoland, Windsor’s Miniland, near London, England. Legoland spokesperson Sue Kemp explained that the company wanted to do something special for such a momentous occasion.

Never too late: It’s never too late to tie the knot and a man in his nineties in the western Saudi Arabia village of Shaab proved it. Khalil Al Sulami had been a bachelor all of his life, but finally decided to get married. Tribal chief Ahmed Ibrahim al Sulami reported that the wedding party was attended by everyone in the village and nearby towns and it was an event that will be remembered for years to come. The groom wouldn’t reveal the age of his bride, but did proclaim that he would never forget the night he bid farewell to bachelorhood.
