Everybody’s Talking

High-flying snake: Pythons are usually found in their natural habitat or, perhaps, in a zoo. However, passengers on a flight from Australia to Papua New Guinea got the surprise of their lives when a scrub python, Australia’s longest species of snake, was found on the plane. The ten-foot-long snake was actually on the wing of the airplane and a passenger noticed it when looking out the window about 20 minutes into the flight. Unfortunately, the reptile did not survive its up-in-the-air ordeal.

Large lobster: Goliath is the name of a giant lobster, which, had fate not intervened, might have ended up on someone’s dinner plate. Weighing in at 15.5 pounds, Goliath was obliviously waiting in a Canadian grocery store in Boucherville, Quebec. However, numerous emails from around the world requested that the large crustacean be saved. He was donated to the Montreal Biodome instead.

Fancy monitor: Rebecca Gallanagh got into trouble one night when she participated in a fight near a pub in England. She was required to wear an electronic ankle monitor. To brighten things up, she glued glittering fake diamonds to the monitor. Authorities fined her £140 ($220 US) for possibly interfering with the device’s electronics.

Long bridge: The Jiaozhou Bay Bridge in China is the world’s longest sea bridge at nearly 26 miles. Built to withstand earthquakes and typhoons, it connects Qingdao to surrounding areas and carries 30,000 vehicles a day.
