Pothole swim: A country road in North Cork, Ireland, was the location of a pothole swim that became famous on YouTube. Liam Keane and his friends discovered the deep pothole, which was caused by a water main break. One night, a group of friends, including Keane’s girlfriend, went to the pothole, measured its depth, and then Keane decided to go for a dip. His girlfriend got a video clip of the eight-second submersion of the bathing suit-clad Keane. Over 250,000 people viewed the plunge online. The massive pothole, which has now been filled in, was full of clean water at the time.
Money bags: A bus driver in Vienna, Austria, got the shock of his life when he was cleaning out the bus at the end of his shift one night. He found a bag that a passenger had inadvertently left behind. The bag did not contain groceries or books or gym clothes. Rather, it contained 390,000 euros, which is approximately $470,000 (US). Luckily, the bag also contained a bank deposit slip, without which it would have been very difficult to find the money’s rightful owner. It turns out that the bag of cash belonged to an elderly lady who may have been a bit forgetful that day.
Agile climber: If hikers find a goat that seems to be stranded on a rock, they shouldn’t spend too much time worrying about the beast. That’s what the members of an animal rescue team in the small town of Cornholme in West Yorkshire, England, concluded after they spent three hours attempting to assist a goat that had been perched on a rock for several days. They named the goat “Black Rock Billie,” who ended up getting out of his precarious situation on his own, just as rescuers arrived. Black Rock Billie hopped happily off the rocks and pranced down a grassy slope to safety.
Way up: There is a building in the United States with features that may scare the living daylights out of visitors. The 110-story Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower) in Chicago is the tallest building in the country. It features four glass balconies that protrude from the building on the 103rd floor. This floor is known as the Skydeck and is 1,351 ft high. Visitors step out onto one of the balconies and are surrounded by glass, including the glass floor beneath their feet. People feel as though they are walking on air, as the street is directly below them. Standing on the balconies also gives visitors a breathtaking view of the city. No need to worry about falling, as the balconies can hold five tonnes of weight.
