Everybody’s Talking

┈┈┈┈┈☟┈┈┈┈┈

Is it a plane? Jeff Bloch of Kershaw, South Carolina (US) owns a car like no other and he constructed it with the help of some friends. His vehicle is a cross between a plane and a car, and when other motorists see it on the street, they can’t believe it. The top of the car is from a 1956 Cessna 310 aircraft, while the bottom is from a 1987 Toyota van. Bloch made the car-plane cross so he could enter the South Carolina LeMons Race, which he won. Later, he installed headlights, brake lights and other necessary functions so he could licence the 27-foot hybrid and drive it on the road. It is quite a sight!

Screwy Art: German-born sculptor Andrew Myers, who now works out of Laguna Beach in California (US) has found a new way to make three-dimensional portraits. He uses Phillips-head screws, and lots of them. He drills the screws into a pegboard at different depths and then paints the screw heads so that the final layout looks like a portrait. Created entirely by hand, the project may take as many as 10,000 pre-drilled holes to accommodate the screws. The finished portraits look somewhat industrial, but at the same time have a special kind of soul. Myers’ screw sculpture portraits can sell for as much as $35,000.

Animal home: Stray dogs and cats in Chongqing, China, might consider themselves lucky, especially if they have come into contact with a generous, animal-loving lady known as Grandma Bai. The woman is so concerned with the plight of strays that for the past 15 years she has been spending her own money to look after many of them. At first, she took in only a few, but soon her animal friends numbered over 100 stray dogs and 30 stray cats. Her neighbours in the city started to complain about the noise, so she moved to a village where she constructed a shelter. Now that people are coming to her to adopt a pet, Grandma Bai can continue with her mission.

Lost pig: A pet pig found in the streets of Leicester, England has found a new home at a local Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Center. Workers there, who named the pig Percy, say he was likely abandoned by his owners because he was getting too big. The eight-month-old pig was malnourished and staff had to work hard to get him healthy again. They believe that Percy is a Vietnamese pig, a breed that is sometimes purchased by celebrities as pets. That trend caught on with the public. Unfortunately, if an owner isn’t knowledgeable about proper care, pigs like Percy can end up homeless on the street.
