Beating hearts: The human heart, a very strong muscle in the human body, beats 70 times per minute in the average person. However, athletes who train extensively and whose hearts are very efficient, can have resting heart rates of 28 to 40 beats per minute.
Fashion statement: Blue jeans, the ubiquitous clothing item of the world today, were invented in 1853 by a German who had immigrated to the United States. His name was Levi Strauss and he made the first pair of jeans out of rough, but strong, canvas.
Play first: The iconic movie, A Streetcar Named Desire, was based on a play written by Tennessee Williams. The play was featured on Broadway between 1947 and 1949 and starred Marlon Brando. Brando also starred in the 1951 movie adaptation.
Making music: The Sound of Music was the last musical created by the team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Hammerstein passed away in 1960, but not before the play had been on Broadway for several months. Richard Rodgers died in 1979.
