Everybody’s Talking

Private dinner: Those who want a truly romantic dining experience might want to consider booking a meal at a restaurant in Vacone, Italy, called Solo Per Due. The name means “Just for Two,” and that is exactly what guests can expect. The restaurant has one table and two chairs for the lucky couple who manage to get a reservation. They will be served a meal based on local ingredients and will receive extremely attentive service from the waiters. It does cost more than a typical meal out, €250 per person ($350 US), but for diners who treasure an intimate experience, it may be worth the price.

Tiny venue: There is a theatre located in Villach, Austria, where everyone gets front row seats. That is because the theatre has room for only eight patrons. The Kremlhof Theatre was built by Felix Strasser and Yulia Izamaylova, who occasionally organize a show, whether it is a ballet, a play, an opera or a literature reading. The Kremlhof Theatre is only 4.2 x 4.2 ft. and it looks more like a cabin than a show venue. The owners do not sell tickets, but instead ask for donations. It provides a unique experience for those looking for live shows in the area.

Camel competitions: In the desert area of India, camels are a traditional form of transportation. In the city of Bikaner in the state of Rajasthan, a festival honouring these animals is held, attracting thousands of tourists and camel breeders. The Bikaner Camel Festival is a two-day event that includes camel races, but people also enter their camels into more artsy competitions. For example, owners shear beautiful designs into their camel’s coat by cutting its hair to make unique designs. There is also a camel beauty contest in which owners decorate their camels with bells and baubles.

Bear sighting: Community members near Cochrane, Alberta (CAN) were surprised to look out their windows one day to find a grizzly bear wandering around. The residents in the area live on acreages and, while they often see fox, moose and coyotes, it is unusual for grizzlies to check out their compost piles. One man got into his vehicle and followed the bear as best he could so he could warn people on other properties. It was thought that the bear hadn’t reached maturity, as it was not too large in size. Wildlife officials were called in to trap the bear so it could be returned to an unpopulated area.
