Tiny art: An artist in Turkey not only eats his food, but he paints on it, too. Hasan Kale enjoys creating tiny works of art and he uses food items for his canvas, such as pieces of chocolate, peanut shells and breadsticks. Because his completed artwork is so small, he depends on a magnifying glass to see what he is doing with his fine-tipped paint brushes. Kale likes to paint areas of his homeland, such as street scenes revealing the domed buildings of Istanbul, as well as seascapes of ships in the water. Viewers may have to borrow Kale’s magnifying glass to view his art.
Pocket dialing: If people don’t lock their cell phones before putting them in their pockets, they might end up “pocket dialing” emergency services by accident. In the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, a report indicates that about 20 percent of the calls that are made to 911 are either non-emergencies or accidental calls. If it’s a pocket-dialed call, and no one is on the line, the emergency phone operators must call back to make sure the person is safe. If it happens to you, answer the phone so the operators know not to send out a police officer.
Red and white: A man named Sevenraj from Bangalore India decided to make himself recognizable to the public so that, as a real estate agent, he would become known and, therefore, his business would flourish. He decided to make everything in his world red and white. He always wears red and white clothing, his house is entirely decorated with these colours, and even his wife and children dress in red and white. If customers visit him at his office, they encounter a red and white décor. The gimmick has worked. Sevenraj has become a bit of a celebrity in his area.
Toy thief: Most criminals steal money or jewelry, but a thief in Kladno in the Northern Czech Republic targeted Lego figures as his booty of choice. Petr Botek was a toy store employee who opened Lego box sets, removed the most sought-after figures inside, then resealed the boxes. He would then sell the stolen figures online. The toy store owner suspected theft after getting complaints from customers. The police were called to investigate, and Botek was caught, but not before stealing over 6,000 figures that were worth about £15,000 ($26,000 US).

Sky light: Many people are amazed when they witness the aurora borealis, more commonly known as the northern lights. This curtain of coloured light in the sky can also be seen in the Southern Hemisphere, where it is called the aurora australis or the southern lights.
Renamed: Renowned musician and entertainer, Prince, was born “Prince Rogers Nelson.” From 1993 to 2000, he changed his name to a symbol that no one could pronounce, so people started referring to him as “the artist formerly known as Prince.”
Two moons: The planet Mars, the fourth planet from the sun, has two moons, Phobos and Deimos. They were discovered in 1877 by Asaph Hall, an American astronomer. These moons are thought to be asteroids captured by the gravity of Mars.
Sea shelter: The Great Barrier Reef is located in the Coral Sea off the coast of Queensland, Australia. Known as the largest coral reef system in the world, it contains about 2,900 reefs and 900 islands and is home to many marine animals and species of fish.
