Wedding selfie: Lots of people take “selfies” of themselves and their friends with their mobile phones, but currently there is a bit of a trend for newly married couples to take a photo of themselves seconds after they’ve been declared husband and wife. That is what Andrew and Sally Robinson did after they said “I do” at a church in Treales, Lancashire, England. Andrew, who did not think he’d have the nerve to take the picture, ended up borrowing his best man’s phone for the task. Their photo won first prize in an online competition for wedding selfies.
Glowing caves: New Zealand may be famous for its mountainous terrain, but there is also an underground attraction that is worth a peek. The Waitomo Glowworm Caves on the North Island of the country are really quite something to behold. Glowworms breed there, shedding their luminescent light around the caves. A stream runs through the caves, so visitors can view the spectacle by taking a guided tour boat. The caves also have unique formations in all shapes and sizes.
Superman coins: People who collect Superman paraphernalia now have a new item to add to their treasure trove—limited edition coins minted by the Royal Canadian Mint in Canada. Four different coins were minted, with one being gold and three being silver. Only 2,000 of the gold coins were made, along with 10,000 of each of the silver versions of the coin. Pictured on the coins are images from “Superman” comic book covers, such as Clark Kent opening his shirt to reveal the “S” on it. Seven other Superman coins released in 2013 are also on the market.
Three-story fall: Many people think that Steven St. Bernard of New York City (US) is a true hero, especially the parents of a little girl named Keyla. St. Bernard was walking home from his job as a bus driver one day when he noticed Keyla hanging from a window on the third floor of an apartment building. Just as he was about to tell her to crawl back inside, she fell. The good news is that St. Bernard was right there to catch her. He suffered a torn muscle in his arm from the impact, but he claims that’s nothing compared to the tragedy that could have occurred.

Wild dogs: Like dingos and coyotes, wolves are a type of wild dog. They live in packs, which can contain as few as two animals or as many as 20. They can run very fast (up to 65 kilometres or 40 miles mph) if they are chasing prey.
Hobbit role: It’s no wonder the American actor, Elijah Wood, was chosen to play the role of Frodo Baggins, a Hobbit, in the Lord of the Rings movie series. Wood is 5’5″ tall and fits the short stature of a Hobbit.
Perfect pie topping: Making meringue to top a pie is no easy feat. For best results, separate the egg yolks from the whites when the eggs are cold. Then, wait until the egg whites are at room temperature before beating them.
The Diomedes: There are two islands in the middle of the Bering Strait between Russia to the East and the American state of Alaska to the West. They are called Little Diomede and Big Diomede. There is a small settlement on the west side of Little Diomede.
