Everybody’s Talking

┈┈┈┈┈☟┈┈┈┈┈

Tiny art: A Mexican-born artist is starting to make quite an impression in the East End of London, England, although it is a small one. Pablo Delgado, who lives in London, creates tiny images and then pastes them onto walls. The images, which are only a few inches high, could be anything from a woman in a ship to a man with a giraffe or someone on a bike. He even creates pictures of doors to incite the imagination of people who may wonder where they lead. Some of the pieces have been stolen when people try to pry them off the walls, but Delgado does not mind when that happens as he considers his street art to be for the people.

Walking carefully: A study by SafeKids Worldwide shows that the mortality rate among older American teens – 1.11 deaths per 100,000 – is now double the rate of younger kids. Teens aged 14 to 19 made up half of all child pedestrian injuries. SafeKids president Kate Carr suggests that is because more teens are using cell phones and they tend to look down at their phones to text or tweet. They do this even when they are walking down a street and, therefore, are not watching where they’re going. Drivers who text as they drive are also putting themselves and others into a dangerous situation. Some high schools are now focusing on pedestrian safety for their students.

Pricey shoes: Marie Antoinette was married to Louis XVI and the couple lived an extravagant life until the French Revolution. That didn’t go so well for Marie; she was convicted of treason and guillotined in Paris, France in 1793. Now, a little over two centuries later, Marie Antoinette’s slippers have been sold at auction in Paris for 50,000 euros, or about $63,500 (US). Art expert Cyrille Boulay reports that it is rare to find objects that belonged to the queen, and her slippers and other personal items that were up for auction attracted intense interest. The buyer’s identity was not made public.

Xbox overload: Tyler Rigsby of Columbus, Ohio (US), learned a very hard lesson about the dangers of going four days straight playing a video game on his Xbox. The teenager was hospitalized for dehydration at the end of his marathon. His mother, Jessie, says Tyler collapsed three times when he emerged from his bedroom where he’d been glued to the game, only stopping for snacks and bathroom breaks. Emergency doctor Mike Patrick explains that dehydration leads to decreased blood pressure which can cause people to pass out or even die. Staying awake for long periods without rest is also dangerous. Not surprisingly, Tyler’s mom took away his Xbox.
