Everybody’s Talking

Saved by skateboard: After an incident in the town of Banff in Alberta, Canada, people might be wise to walk around carrying a skateboard to fend off cougars. At least that is what one young man discovered and it may have saved his life. The man was attacked from behind by the wild cat, but was further able to avoid it by hitting it with his skateboard. According to conservation officials, that was the right thing to do because cougars will back off if threatened. The man was uninjured. Officials say cougars do not normally attack people, but may do so in rare instances.
Big family: A family from Renfrewshire, Scotland, grew from a family of six to a family of eight when Karen Rodger gave birth to beautiful twin girls. Having twins may not be the most unique thing in the world, but for Karen and her husband, Colin, it most certainly is. The couple has already had two other sets of twins, all boys. The odds of having twins for the third time in a row is a huge 500,000 to one. The healthy baby girls were born in the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow, and both parents and all the boys are thrilled about the new arrivals.
Pampered porpoise: When people hear the name Levi, they may think of blue jeans. However, at the Vancouver Aquarium in British Columbia, Canada, Levi is the name of a rescued porpoise. Found stranded on an inlet, mammal rescue workers brought the adult male to the aquarium’s rescue center. Levi could not swim, so the staff at the aquarium made a special sling to keep him afloat. Many stranded porpoises don’t survive as they may be old or sick. But, because Levi’s underlying health is good and he is receiving around-the-clock care, it is hoped that he will gain strength so he can swim again and eventually be let loose in his native habitat.
Red hot curry: Those who like really hot curry should check out a special dish called The Phaal, which is served to daring diners at the Brick Lane Curry House in New York City (US). Guests who take on the challenge and finish the dish are awarded a certificate and a free beer. However, not many can accomplish the task. The Phaal is made from eight different kinds of chillies, including Bhut Naga Jolokia, which is 200 times hotter than Tabasco sauce. People who make the attempt usually give up after a few bites because they start to sweat, cry and shake. Oh, and one more thing – cooks wear gas masks when they prepare the fiery dish!
