Strange fruit: South America is home to many interesting fruits, including the jabuticaba. This fruit grows right on the trunk of its tree and is a thick-skinned berry. It is used for making jam, wine and liqueurs.
Deep sea creature: The frilled shark lives in the deep depths of the ocean. Scientists are just learning about this species and they think the females can be pregnant for as long as three and a half years before giving birth.
Award winner: Author Cormac McCarthy is an American writer who won the Pulitzer Prize for his 2006 novel, The Road. He is also a playwright and screenwriter, and some of his books have been adapted for film.
