Mirrors: A small town in Norway called Rjukan has become sunnier because of technology. Located in a deep valley with mountains all around it, Rjukan doesn’t get any sun during six months of winter. To bring sun to the valley, three gigantic mirrors, each one measuring 51 square metres (167 square feet), were installed on a mountaintop. The mirrors have wireless technology, allowing them to follow the sun and the light is reflected down to the town below. Martin Andersen headed up the campaign to erect the mirrors, which are seen as a way to promote the well-being of the town’s inhabitants.
Flying high: Three children on a holiday with their parents in Ambleside, Cumbria, England, went for a wild wide in a tent. Oliver, Kate and Lily Gardner were sleeping in an eight-person tent while their parents, Steve and Gail Gardner, were outside tending to camp duties. Suddenly, a huge gust of wind picked up the tent, with the children inside, and carried it 30 feet away, where it got hung up on a fence. The parents raced to rescue their children, who ended up with some bumps and bruises, but came out of the ordeal okay. The family won’t likely forget that camping trip for a long time!
No brushes: Forgetting her paint brushes left in the car while on a hike with her husband was the impetus for artist Sandy Byers to start using credit cards to paint with. The resident from Whidbey Island, Washington (US) now enjoys using credit cards for painting as much as she likes using them for shopping! The creations she makes, often landscapes, seascapes, animals or portraits, are beautiful works of art, and viewers wouldn’t know that a credit card had been used in the process.
Pay up: If Roopam Plawn has her way, her ex-boyfriend is going to have a few bills to pay. It seems that the woman from Kamloops, British Columbia (CAN) failed one of her university courses and she’s blaming it on the stress she endured when Jasmeet Ahluwalia broke up with her. Roopam wants money for the course’s tuition, a little something for the anxiety she suffered, as well as a wee bit more for her terribly distressed state of mind after Ahluwalia left her. As well, she’s trying to get back some money that she allegedly loaned to the guy while they were still together. Good luck!
