No pants: An airline in South Korea may have to bend its rules if it wants to keep its female flight attendants from quitting. The airline imposes many rules on the uniform, hairstyles and general appearance of its female cabin crew. For example, pants are not allowed (only skirts) and facial blemishes must be covered up with makeup. In the past, even eyeglasses were forbidden, although that rule has changed. Even the South Korea human rights commission is in agreement with the women, particularly on the topic of being allowed to wear pants on the job. A total of 3,400 female staff members are affected by the airline’s archaic dress code.

Tommy lives: The story of a lost tabby cat named Tommy reveals the lengths to which loving owners will go to save their pet. Tommy, who was originally a stray taken in by Elizabeth and Jerry Moore and their son Evan, went missing from the family’s home in St. Augustine in Florida (US). He was absent for two months. The Moores thought he was gone forever when a neighbour found the malnourished cat in his garage. The tabby had lost nearly half its body weight and had to undergo a blood transfusion. After spending $2,000 (US) on vet bills and giving him lots of love, the family is happy and Tommy has regained his formal zest for life.

Golden cat: There is a tabby cat who lives at the Olmense Zoo, in Antwerp, Belgium, but it’s no ordinary feline that folks can plop on their lap for a cuddle. The magnificent creature is a Golden Tabby Tiger that zookeepers have named Sapphire. These animals have golden patches of fur on a white coat, rather than the more common orange and black colouring. Tigers with this gorgeous coat are very rare as fewer than 30 are known to exist, all in zoos. Golden Tabby Tigers descend from White Tigers that carry the recessive golden gene. So, there may be some White Tigers in the wild that have the golden gene, but do not look golden.

Nap time: It’s long been known that a short power nap can provide people with the energy to get through the rest of the day. That concept is taken very seriously in Tokyo, Japan, where sleep salons are available for business people who need a nap. In one women-only establishment called the Quska Sleeping Café, patrons enjoy a comfortable bed, aromatherapy and cosmetics that can be used to freshen up before heading back to the office. Cost for a 10-minute nap is $1.60 (US). For a longer afternoon nap of four hours, a patron would have to pay about $33 (US).
