Everybody’s Talking

┈┈┈┈┈☟┈┈┈┈┈

Underwater artist: Most artists like to create their paintings in their home studios. Not Pascual Mimbela, an artist from Peru. He paints his works under the water in the Pacific Ocean near Talara province. Toting his brushes, canvases and oils, Mimbela dons scuba diving gear and takes the plunge. His scenery is populated by fish of all shapes, sizes and colours, as well as aquatic plants and reefs. This has always been the artist’s dream. He has painted many works depicting beaches, waves and boats, but until now had never attempted an underwater scene.

Not dead yet: It’s one thing to read the obituaries and discover that someone you know has died. It’s quite another to open up this section to find your own name as one of the deceased! That is what happened to Sven-Olof Svennson, an elderly Swedish man. Not feeling well, Svennson was admitted to the hospital and when his even more elderly sister called to check on him, she somehow misunderstood the medical staff and believed her brother had passed away. She had the obituary published, then went to get Svennson’s belongings from the hospital. Instead, she found her brother alive and well!

Egg art: Many different materials can be used as a medium for artwork, but an artist from Vietnam uses something unique – the shells from chicken eggs. Ben Tre carves the shells into an array of interesting subject matter, including portraits of famous people, such as Albert Einstein and Queen Elizabeth, and scenes of palm trees and cottages. These delicate works of art can then be mounted on wood and covered with a globe of glass, similar to a snow globe, but without the snow. At first, Tre had difficulty finding the right tool for his art, but he has discovered that a small dentist’s drill is ideal.

Window dressing: A Denmark company tried a novel approach to help unemployed executives, teachers and students obtain work. With high unemployment rates, even educated and experienced job seekers have trouble finding a job and their resumes are often among hundreds of other applicants looking for the same position. Enter Alexander Peitersen of the marketing firm, Reputation Copenhagen. He decided to use his company’s storefront window to feature talented job contenders who sit on display at a desk. The idea attracted attention and several job seekers found work after many months of searching.
