Everybody’s Talking

┈┈┈┈┈☟┈┈┈┈┈

June 15, 2026

Big order: A man in Ottawa, Ontario (CAN) put in a food order of nine gyro wraps so he could feed a few friends who were coming over to visit. Nick Bachusky did not realize that when he phoned in the order, the restaurant owner didn’t hear “nine” – he heard “ninety,” even after double-checking. Upon entering the restaurant to pick up the order, it became clear to Buchusky that a serious mistake had been made. Instead of walking away and leaving the exhausted cook with an expensive situation, he used social media to bring attention to the problem. Before long, every last gyro was sold.

Street slide: When a city temporarily closes a street, it is usually for some type of seasonal fair or festival. In Bristol, England, a street was closed for another reason-to accommodate a gigantic waterslide! A simple structure made from sheets of plastic and hay bales, the slide was the brainchild of artist Luke Jerram, who wanted to find a way to get people back into the streets for community activity. The slide was funded by those interested in the idea and a lottery was held to see who could go for a spin. Thousands of people applied and 350 lucky sliders got the chance to try it out.

Nose dive: Potholes may be a way of life for drivers in many cities around the world, but one pothole in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec (CAN) was a little out of the ordinary. Not just a shallow crack in the pavement, this pothole was caused by a broken water main underground. The road above the break ended up collapsing and an elderly driver’s car took a nose-dive into the recently opened chasm. The hole was so deep that the front portion of the vehicle was below pavement level. Luckily, the driver emerged unscathed and street repair workers were called in to fix the problem.

Fire mountain: There is a small country called Azerbaijan in Eastern Europe that boasts an amazing geographical feature, which is also a tourist magnet. The feature is a burning mountain – literally! Yanar Dag is a volcano that burns continuously. Yanar Dag is actually a hill that is about 660 ft. (200 metres) long, under which there is a pocket of natural gas that is always seeping. The gas burns, shooting flames into the air. This blaze burns along the hill’s edge. From afar, and especially at dusk, the scene is quite spectacular. Yanar Dad is located not far from Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan.
